Volunteer’s Feedback

I was recently given an invitation by Father Tim to write about my experience as a volunteer in Malawi.

I recently volunteered in Cape Maclear, Malawi, with the Billy Riordan Memorial Trust and I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about my time there.

Filling the physiotherapy position at Billy Riordan Memorial Clinic was a challenging and rewarding experience for me.

It was in a moment of madness that I decided to do volunteer work in Africa – one of the best life decisions I ever made.

With the ongoing drastic reduction of supply of electricity from the national grid, funded by Billys USA, we are now solar powered both in the clinic and at the gap.
Dr Eugene Meyer a noted ophthalmic surgeon from South Africa and his South African nursing assistants travel to the Billy clinic 3/4 times per year performing cataract surgery and other procedures.
The last number of months saw us again saying goodbyes and hellos to the Billy’s volunteer force.
